There are over 480 species of recognised philodendrons in the world. They belong to the family Araceae. The name is derived from Greek words philo- which means love or affection and dendron meaning tree. They are considered for their indoor air cleaning ability. The vining and climbing varities form the the two types of philodendrons. If a support is provided the vining philodendrons can grow up to seven feet or more and climbing varieties grow upright foliage in containers. These are one of the few plants which sustain easily when moved from indoor to outdoor or vice versa.
